living sanctuaries

OutComes In represents the work of Steven Marx, designer and master builder living in the Pacific Northwest. Steven has consummate skill at building structures by hand and broad knowledge of organic architectural design. Trained in the Midwestern US, he brought his passion for creating live space to the Pacific NW 41 years ago.
His mission is to create spaces that transform lives by helping people better connect to the natural world. And in doing so, promote a life of improved health, happiness, and well-being.

"the house shelters day dreaming,

the house protects the dreamer,
the house allows one to dream in peace.”

Dream

DESIGN

Steven designs, constructs, and installs small to medium sized studios, meditation rooms, sanctuaries and stand-alone structures, as well as re-imagining space in existing dwellings.

He works from the view that since we inhabit our structures, good design is created from the inside out. By improving the relationship we have with our living space, he believes we will improve the character of our lives. He designs live spaces that employ light, color, texture, proportion, and the four elements, creating an environment where all who live there can thrive.

Wood and Nails

BUILD

Rigorously trained by ‘old school’ carpenters before nail guns and laser levels, Steven has been building hand-made structures professionally for over 40 years. He has built public spaces, shops, clinics, offices, art studios, yoga studios, residences in many architectural styles, custom woodwork, furniture, and cabinets, as well as re-imagining hundreds of existing spaces that needed help. His experience with building from the ground up helps keep his lofty ideas down to earth and practical.

Possibilities

CONSULT

Many of us have unanswered questions about our living space. Should I move or stay? Can I change my home to make it better work for me? What is the process for building a new home? How do I find a builder I want to work with? Is this house worth upgrading? If I change my home, how will it change my lifestyle and perhaps me?

Steven works with clients to help them look at possibilities, and in the process, see their home with new eyes.

As our children were grown we realized our 3,000 sq ft home was too large for us. With Steven’s direction, encouragement, and expert design, we now live in a 1,200 sq ft dream home that we never want to leave.

Not only can Steven design a beautiful place that functions perfectly, he has made it feel so unique and special. This is the most favorite home we have lived in!

SANCTUARY:
Derived from sanctuarium (L)
arium: a container for keeping something in
sancti: sacred
a place of refuge or asylum
During these changing times, the importance of sanctuary cannot be overlooked.
Having a hand-built space can be that special sanctuary where you recharge.
Perhaps it is a simple space you can go to, to reconnect with what you hold important.
Or a quiet spot to meditate or pray. Where can you decompress and relieve stress, find
clarity of mind and have quiet time? Where can you unplug from the chatter and noise of
the outside world? Where do you fit the pieces back together?
Where is your sanctuary?
Steven offers a wide range of custom shop-built and site-built structures available for purchase. Please contact OutComes In for further information about Steven’s work or to discuss how creating personal sanctuary can enrich your life.
